Let’s be real – weddings are full of heartfelt moments, but they’re also packed with laughter, chaos, and those “did-that-just-happen?” scenes that make the day unforgettable.
As a wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to witness it all. I like to think I bring more than just a camera – I bring energy, fun, and a bit of well-timed cheekiness to help the day flow with a smile.
Here are some of my favourite go-to banter moments, plus a few handy tips I always bring along for the ride. Whether you’re planning your big day or just need a laugh – enjoy!
1️⃣ Morning Shenanigans
Arrival at bridal prep usually involves:
I always try arriving with a cheeky bottle of prosecco 🍾banter & fun vibes
And… a classic white lie when I pop between the bride and groom’s rooms.
Bride: “How are the boys doing?”
Me: “Honestly… they’re already a bit drunk. But I’m sure it’ll be fine!” 😅
Gets a laugh every time – especially when it’s not true (most of the time).
2️⃣ Best Man Ring Panic
I’ll often ask to borrow the rings for a close-up photo… then pretend I never got them.
“Mate I gave them back already… didn’t I?”
Cue: full panic mode on the best man’s face 😳
(…Don’t worry, I reveal the truth before anyone passes out!)
3️⃣ A Quiet Word With the Groom
Just before the ceremony starts and tension is high, I’ll casually lean in:
“She’s definitely on her way. Might’ve had a few second thoughts and cold feet but… fingers crossed for you!” 😬
Works a treat for cutting the nerves with humour.
4️⃣ First Kiss – Take Two!
After the ceremony kiss, I jump in and shout:
“Alright, that was a bit quick… shall we make them go again?!”
Everyone laughs – and it gives me time to get:
A tight close-up 📷
And a wide angle with all the guests behind 👏
5️⃣ Group Shot Banter
Getting 100+ people to look the same way and smile? No pressure.
Here’s what I say:
“Right everyone – arms up on the count of three!
Unless you’re holding a baby… then maybe not.” 🍼😆
Then I follow up with:
“Now that I have everyone’s attention – if you didn’t know already, I’ll have whatever you’re drinking!
I’m Dan, your photographer
Can I keep the immediate family, bridesmaids and groomsmen for a few more?
Everyone else who came for the free food – go fill ya boots!” 🍰🥂
💡 Bonus Tips I Always Bring
It’s not all banter – I genuinely want your day to go smoothly, so here are a few helpful tricks I always have up my sleeve:
✅ Dry the bouquets if they’ve been in water
✅ Scuff up new shoes to avoid slippery disasters
✅ Perfume check – no blotchy dresses allowed
✅ Toilet reminders before the ceremony (seriously – it’s always a rush!)
✅ I carry makeup top-ups (for others, not me… usually)
✅ I’ll help move chairs, clear tables, and get stuck in wherever needed
✅ Speeches on a phone? Stick it on airplane mode or print it in big text – trust me, your stag chat won’t help your nerves 😅
