Bride and groom at Farnbridge wedding venue, captured by Dorset wedding photographer Dan Roads

Being a wedding photographer isn’t just about taking stunning photos—it’s also about being a professional problem solver, emergency fixer, and occasional fast-food delivery driver.

Here are just a few things I’ve actually done at weddings:

🍟 Picked up McDonald’s on the way to the bride squad prep shoot.

(because hungry bridesmaids are not to be messed with).

👗 Pinned a bridesmaid down to zip up her dress—teamwork makes the dream work!

🪡 Emergency wedding dress fixes—chalk to hide a mystery stain, sewing a split

(yes, I carry a sewing kit), and make sure every button is actually fastened.

👠 Saved many guests from sinking into the grass by handing out rubber heel stoppers like some kind of fairy god-photographer.

🛒 Emergency supply runs—toothpaste, deodorant, even ‘lady pads’… you name it, I’ve fetched it.

Weddings are wild!

💍 Drove the best man home to get the rings—because, well… oops.

The photos are important, but so is making sure the day goes smoothly!

If you want a photographer who’s got your back and your big moments, I might just be your guy. 😉

"When the staff are just as invested in the day as the couple, it transforms a beautiful wedding into an unforgettable experience."

Why the Venue Staff Matter

In my experience, no matter how beautiful a venue may be, it’s the people running it that can truly elevate the day.

Great staff take pressure off the couple, guide the flow of the event, and even help us suppliers feel like a valued part of the team.

That sense of shared purpose makes a huge difference – from keeping timelines smooth to creating a relaxed, welcoming vibe that shines through in every photo.

Whether it’s a coordinator checking in with the couple, a bartender making everyone smile, or a team member making sure suppliers are looked after with a coffee (always appreciated!), it all adds up to something pretty magical.
